My Oktoberfest is telling the story of our great festival!
The Festival Promotions committee is responsible for telling the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest story in order to increase awareness and participation in Canada’s greatest Bavarian festival. It is quite the story to tell so we use a number of different methods to market KWO.
This past year we launched the My Oktoberfest campaign. This is a multi-year campaign and it is designed to showcase the many different aspects of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest through the words of its participants, including festival goers, volunteers and members of our community. We know everyone experiences KWO differently and we wanted to give people a way to share these experiences in order to promote KWO. We have collected a number of videos and photos of people sharing their #MyOktoberfest story and we will be using these to produce marketing material in the offseason. We also started a blog during this past festival so that people can share their story with us. We received a number of great submissions which can be found at www.myoktoberfest.tumblr.com. Alongside the blog we also use facebook, twitter and youtube to broadcast our message and to engage people online in sharing their experience with us. We are always looking for great parts of our Oktoberfest story to tell. So if your committee has something they want the world to know about please make sure you let us know so we can help spread your message.
In addition to using social media and videos to spread the Oktoberfest message, the marketing committee also has a promotions team we call the Prost Patrol. The Prost Patrol visits various festivals, events and locations to promote Oktoberfest on a one on one basis. This is a great way for us to engage people and have conversations about Oktoberfest.
The Festival Promotions committee is currently in need of volunteers that have experience in any of the following areas: videography, video editing, strategic marketing and analytics. So if you know anyone that would fit our team we would love it if you sent them our way!
