Mark Potter
Everyone comes to Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest looking to meet that one special guy who exemplifies the Spirit of Gemuetlichkeit! His permanent smile and friendly wave are the warm welcome you look for in every festhalle and event. That man is Onkel Hans ~ and standing next to him is Mark Potter, our Volunteer of the Year for 2011!

Wherever Onkel Hans is, you can bet Mark Potter, who joined the Onkel Hans Committee in 2001, is standing close by with a friendly, watchful eye on our Goodwill Ambassador! Since joining the festival in 1999 on the Human Resources Committee, (which later became the Gemuetlichkeit Committee), Mark Potter has been a friendly face at Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest events and festhallen.

While he is seldom in the spotlight himself, Mark Potter gives a standout performance when it comes to supporting the festival, his committee volunteers and even the festival office staff. Mark became the Vice-Chair of the Onkel Hans Committee in 2004 (a role he still holds), and in 2011 he stepped up to coordinate the highly popular introduction of Ziggy unt Zaggy Steiner, two new festival mascots who happen to be the long lost nephews of Onkel Hans (from his wife Frieda’s side of the family).

This year, like every year, Mark Potter has shown a willingness to go the extra mile for the festival, to get the job done safely, in the Spirit of Gemuetlichkeit, and always with his infectious laugh and a warm welcome.

For this reason, and many more, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest thanks and recognizes Mark Potter as Volunteer of the Year 2011.
